Crowns and bridges are used to restore functionality and aesthetics of missing teeth or teeth which have been heavily filled or broken. Typically, they’re made of ceramic or porcelain but can also be made from other materials, such as zirconia. Crowns are extremely versatile and can be placed over a single tooth, joined together as part of a conventional dental bridge, or to add the finishing touch to a dental implant.
Essentially, crowns and bridges can improve a smile, strengthen weakened teeth or replace a missing tooth gap.

In a word, no. It’s far better to replace a tooth with a restoration because when you don’t, it can trigger a whole series of events that will cause dental problems further down the line.
Dental crowns made from porcelain, ceramic or zirconia typically look more natural. Sometimes, they’re infused with metal to add extra strength and durability. Our dentist will talk you through the options so you can make an informed decision.
When we’re talking about conventional, non-implant-supported bridges and crowns, then yes. Either the single tooth that is to be crowned or the adjacent abutment teeth, in the case of a larger tooth gap, will need to be reshaped slightly to make room for the crowns and support a bridge.
Alternatively, because an implant represents a standalone fixture, any other teeth should remain untouched.
