For optimal stability, a bridge is ideal for supporting 2-4 teeth. Anything over this and both stability and functionality can become compromised.
It’s common knowledge that dental implants can be used to plug the gap of a single missing tooth but what about several or more teeth? The good news is that each missing tooth doesn’t necessarily require an implant.
Often, a more cost-effective and stable solution is to utilise implant-supported bridges. Reading patients should know that the procedure is tried, tested and proven and here at our dental spa, we use only the finest tooth implants and restorations to deliver stunning results that our patients love.
Essentially, it works to the same principle of a conventional bridge where larger gaps are filled by bridging restorations, except, in this instance, dental implants are used to support them, rather than adjacent natural teeth.
Typically, when you are missing several adjacent teeth, a high-quality titanium implant is placed at either end of the gap. In most cases, temporary replacement teeth are also fitted while the implants heal.
The dental bridge comprises a crown at each end with one or more crowns connected in between, depending on the number of missing teeth being replaced. Once the implants are stabilised, the crowns at each end of the bridge are placed over the implant posts while the crowns in the centre close the gap, giving the illusion of a full smile. Our team will skillfully colour-match all crowns and bridging teeth to mirror the rest of your smile for a flawless finish.
There are several key advantages of implant bridges over their traditional counterparts which include:
Traditional dental bridges necessitate the filing down of adjacent teeth to attach the restoration. This process can compromise otherwise healthy teeth. Because dental implants are standalone appliances, adjacent teeth are naturally left intact.
Additionally, because implants prevent further bone loss, an implant-supported bridge creates a significant improvement in a person’s appearance.
Finally, because implant-supported bridges in Reading are held in place by tooth implants, they’re incredibly robust, allowing for greater chewing ability as well as all-around functionality.

No. They’re fixed appliances although they are designed to be removed when necessary by our dentist.
Reading patients should know that maintenance is hassle-free as you treat it the same as you would your natural teeth, making sure you clean below the gum line.
Implants themselves are designed to last indefinitely. However, the lifespan of ceramic or porcelain restorations such as crowns or bridging teeth is typically 10-15 years, so they may need changing at some point.
